Kellogg’s to Remove All Sugars from Cereals

In a bid to renew trust with consumers after 100 years in business, Kellogg’s today announced that it was eliminating all sugars, whether raw, refined or derived from corn, from all of its cereal products, effective by mid-2009.

Citing their founder W.K Kellogg’s dictum that “We are a company of dedicated people making quality products for a healthier world.” the company is responding to criticism that its products are now a prime contributor to the explosion of Type II Diabetes in the American population.

Sugar-based food manufacturers such as Coca-Cola and Kellogg’s are increasingly wary of class-action suits emerging from diabetic patient associations, and have seen juries award huge settlements in litigation brought by cancer victims against tobacco firms, some of whom also manufacture food products.

The American Diabetes Association replied that it is taking a “wait and see attitude” before commenting.
